Back-to-school allowance
For the start of the 2022 academic year, the amount of the back-to-school allowance is:
- €428.02 per child aged 15 to 18.
Your resources for the year 2021 must not exceed:
- €25,370 for a child,
- €31,225 for two children,
- €37,080 for three children,
- €42,935 for four children.
The back-to-school allowance is paid directly by the family allowance funds (CAF) or the Mutualité sociale agricole (MSA).
Parents of children under the age of 16 do not have to take any steps: the CAF automatically pay the ARS to families already receiving benefits who meet the conditions. Parents of children aged 16 to 18 must inform the CAF or the MSA of their child’s schooling in order to benefit from the back-to-school allowance.
Families who do not have a file with the Family Allowance Fund (CAF) can download their ARS application from the website www.caf.fr.

The scholarship for 16-18 year olds returning to school
Young people between the ages of 16 and 18 who have abandoned their training and are resuming studies for a professional purpose can benefit from a return to studies bonus, in addition to the high school scholarship
.
This bonus can be awarded to young people who:
- return to their studies after an interruption of schooling of at least five months
- are entitled to a national high school scholarship when they resume their studies
This bonus, amounting to 600 euros, is added to the high school scholarship. In total, the annual amount paid is at least 1000 euros per year.
It is paid in three instalments, at the same time as the scholarship.
A three-step approach
- Enroll in a high school to resume training;
- Find out about the right to a scholarship from the secretariat of the host institution;
- Apply for a scholarship: a form filled in by the host institution will complete the scholarship application.
The merit scholarship
It is a device intended to complete the allocation of a high school scholarship. Scholarship students who have obtained a mention Bien or Très bien in the national diploma of the patent are automatically awarded the merit scholarship.
This supplement is paid throughout their schooling until the end of the cycle leading to the baccalaureate or the certificate of professional aptitude (CAP) in order to help them in the pursuit of their studies.
The annual amount of the merit scholarship, in addition to the high school scholarship, varies according to the level of the scholarship, from €402 (1st level) to € 1,002 (6th level). The merit scholarship is paid in three instalments at the same time as the high school scholarship.
social funds
The high school social fund
In public high schools, a high school student social fund makes it possible to provide exceptional assistance to a student to meet the expenses of school life and schooling. This aid is granted by the headteachers, on the advice of the commission chaired by him and made up of members of the educational community, student delegates and parents of students.
The social fund for canteens
This fund should enable pupils (middle school, high school and secondary school pupils) from underprivileged backgrounds to attend the canteen of their establishment.
During the school year, the head of the establishment obtains the opinion of the board of directors on the criteria and methods to be adopted for the allocation of the aid which will be deducted from the amount of the half-board.
All useful information, both in terms of scholarships and social funds, will be provided by the secretariat of the establishment attended by the student.
The Sport Pass
The Pass’Sport is a sports allowance of 50 euros per child to finance all or part of their registration in a voluntary sports association and allow them to participate in the activities it organizes from September 2022 to June 2023.
